London, Kentucky will have a weekend dedicated to Vietnam and Vietnam era veterans this weekend.
Friday there will be a flyover and vigil in honor of veterans. Saturday there will be a parade in London followed by a veteran reunion and concert.
Vietnam veterans did not receive a welcome home like WWII and other veterans from other conflicts.
This is just a small way to say Thank You and Welcome Home.
A lot of Vietnam veterans, because of the largely negative perception of the war, did not openly say that they had been in Vietnam; some did not even want to admit they were in the military.
Organizers say the ceremonies will be a solemn affair. "There is not a lot of hoopla that we're trying to do. We're not turning it into a festival because we want it to be somewhat of a reverent type event," said organizer Phil Smith.

Proud to have served and proud to be an American standing for the Greatness we once had and the Greatness we could have again. However I am in no way proud of where we are today as a nation and hang my head in shame for that.
ReplyDeleteProud of our men and women who have and continue to serve in Afghanistan and Iraq. I have tried to find factual stats on combined number of troops who have served here to date and total number of deaths. I can find the numbers for Viet Nam and we were there fully engaged in combat from 1965 for not quite 10 years. We have not been in Iraq quite as long and Afghanistan for a bit less time and thank God for His Grace that has prevented anything near the 58,000 plus who lost their precious lives in a WAR WE COULD HAVE WON ! The same goes for Iraq and Afghanistan, We CAN AND SHOULD WIN, but spineless politicians refuse to allow that. Makes me PUKE at the thought.
