Specifically with the 3rd Armored Division. A friend of mine told us about this incident having occurred between 1960-1963. He and 4 soldiers were in a T48 gas powered tank. Evidently there was no proper venting on the interior to breathe, and 4 of them died from the fumes. My friend Manuel Anthony Martin survived. He just recently passed at the age of 81 after battling leukemia for many years. Would love to know if anyone has heard of this incident. I haven't been able to find anything online.fla911girlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05971567528535126870noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2066129174934611330.post-61662157262937603522023-10-31T00:56:07.757-04:002023-10-31T00:56:07.757-04:00Looking for bros in d co.3/10 inf. 1981/82 scouts....Looking for bros in d co.3/10 inf. 1981/82 scouts. I was a medic in HHC 3/33rd pickles from 1979 to 1981. Myself and three other medics from the same platoon were detailed to retrieve his body. And as you stated, the hose was still attached to his pickup. I will never forget his eyes when we were lifting him off the ground. I wish I could remember the medics names that were there with me. I remember the faces but not the names. A main gun round was accidently fired by touching the round's baseplate to an exposed electrical wire. The soldier was killed by the concussive effects contained within the turret. I had to enter the tank to retrieve the soldier's body as the 1st Sergeant of the unit was cooling off the remaining rounds with a fire extinguisher while we got him out. roguesamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17205707202510260349noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2066129174934611330.post-2070532189064678862021-01-07T18:54:57.728-05:002021-01-07T18:54:57.728-05:00I am looking for basic training buddies that were ...I am looking for basic training buddies that were was in Fort Knox Kentucky between September 1985-December 1985Finkymanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09061513736835309233noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2066129174934611330.post-64167194167504394992020-04-10T21:40:53.728-04:002020-04-10T21:40:53.728-04:00I really enjoyed reading this post, I always appre...I really enjoyed reading this post, I always appreciate topics like this being discussed to us. Laponte, Supply Clerk, suicide by hanging, 1986, D Co. - 1/48 Infantry, Coleman Kasern in Gelnhausen, received a “Dear John" letter while the Company was on a ski trip in Chimsee, Germany. Once back at Coleman Kasern, he did not show for morning formation but I noticed his Squad Leader reported all present. After PT I went to supply room and noticed it was locked. Told XO who tried to unlock. Key wouldn’t go all the way into lock which meant there was a key in the lock on the other side. Removed door hinges. Went in and found LaPonte all dressed in nicely pressed BDUs, spit shined boots, hat and glasses on, hanging from rope. It was horrible to see. This was a long time ago and it sometimes freaks me out to think of it. That was enough to see. I cannot imagine having been in a war and saw so much more death.
